Karate hardly anyone who has not heard this name, Otherwise we all are familiar with this name, and as we already know, every Art that teaches Self-Defence is a Martial Art. Karate is a Japanese Martial Art and it has more 10 million practitioners. Karate is now predominantly a striking art using punching, kicking, knee strikes, and elbow strikes and-hand techniques such as knife-hands, spear-hands, and palm-heel strikes. Historically, and in some modern styles, grapping, throws, joints locks, restraints are also taught. Karate training is commonly divided into- KIHON- (Basic Fundamentals), KATA-(Forms), KUMITE-(Sparring). Karate is a martial art developed in the ryukyu kingdom, Okinawa.It developed from the indigenous Ryukyuan martial arts under the influence of Chinese Kenpo and in initial days it was called ‘’Te’’ means ‘’Hand’’, The Ryukyu kingdom was annexed by Japan in 1879 and karate was introduced to Japan in the early 20th century by Supreme Master Gichin Funakoshi and It was systematically taught in Japan after the Taisho era In 1917, Master Funakoshi gives the first public demonstration of karate-do In 1922,

 The Japanese Ministry of Education invited Master Gichin Funakoshi to Tokyo to give a karate demonstration In 1924, Keio University established the first university karate club in mainland Japan, Because of increasing Japanese influence, the lebel of ‘’Te’’ (Hand) was eventually lengthened to ‘’Karate-Jutsu’’ (Chinese Hand Art). It then Changed to ‘’Karate-Do’’ after an Okinawa master altered the meaning of the word ‘’Kara’’ to mean ‘’Empty’’ rather than ‘’Chinese’’. Karate-do translates into ‘’The Way of the Empty Hand’’. After 1930: Karate makes its way to Canada. 1939: Japan opens Shotokan, its first

formal training school. 1945: The first dojo is opened in the United States. 1948: The Japan Karate Association (JKA) was founded. 1950: Karate is introduced in the United Kingdom on April 10, 1957: The JKA became a legal entity when Japan’s Ministry of Education officially the JKA, IN October 1957: The 1st JKA All Japan Karate Championship was held in Tokyo. In 1994: The JKA published the first in a series of five authoritative text-books on kata. This series is also called the ‘’bible’’ of karate kata. Karate is divided into style organizations but The World Karate Federation (WKF) is the largest sport karate organization with 188 member countries and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). There are 4 Karate styles recognized by WKF (Shito ryu, Shotokan, Goju ryu, Wado ryu) In August 2016 it was announced Karate would be in the 2024 Olympics.

Karate India Organisation (KIO) is the only National Federation karate Sports in India duly affiliated with World Karate Federation (WKF), Asian Karate Federation (AKF), Commonwealth Karate Federation (CKF) and South Asian Karate Federation (SAKF), KIO is also recognized by Govt. of India (Ministry of youth Affairs and Sports) and affiliated by Indian Olympic Association (IOA). Karate Sports is now medal event in Olympic, Youth Olympic, World Games, Asian Games, SAF Games National Games, School Games.
